Three, two, then one W HEN my two bud- dies and I sobered up a er our "lost week- end," I suggested that we attend an AA meeting inanearbytown.Tomy surprise they said yes. It was a hot summer night and I was dressed in a wool sport coat. We made our way in and were wel- comed with smiles and a look of understanding that blew our minds. We went to many meet- ings and on day 77 my friend Tom decided that he just could not stand the "pressure of sobriety"--- meaning that he wanted to drink. So, Bobby and I let him go. On day 180, Bobby went to meditate and le me in AA. Many years have gone by since and I would not trade places with my buddies for one moment. My new life, living through the Twelve Steps and the Fellowship, cannot Shifting experience T HANKS to Bert W. for "Continental Shi " (April 2010). He remind- ed me of my own shi ing experience of "God." Yet, I have prayed to the God of my childhood at times and I am grateful "he" is still there. I am also grate- ful to Bill W. and the AA pioneers who le us so much room to find "a faith that works."
