Grapevine : January 2011
Dear Grapevine upstate New York, I found no mikes at any meet- ings. I found a music and sound store and asked them to put together something for this need. ose old-timers and "so speakers" can be heard now. My wife of 58 years is confined to a chair and I can't do much service anymore. Now the mike is my service! Bob L. Selkirk, N.Y. Facing the challenges I'd like to say thank you for having an issue about special needs. On page one you talk about "a young man with a learning disability [who] faces challenges not so clearly visible, but learns to stay sober with the Steps" and service work. Reading that story got me thinking about my son. irteen years ago when he was four months old, he started having seizures and had them for a few years. He no longer has sei- zures, but still has a learn- ing problem. He cannot speak very well, although his speech is a lot better than it was a year ago. ank you for sharing that story. I'm thinking about writing about what happened to my son and how that led me to go out and drink. Dan G. Portage, Mich. Hear ye, hear ye! Ihave a 95 percent loss of hearing as does the author in, "Speak up!" (September 2010). My hearing aids increase the volume, but distort the words, making them hard to comprehend. I started AA in Florida and most meetings had wireless microphones. However, when I moved to Those 'soft speakers' can be heard now. PHOTO BY NEVILLE E. Vol. 67, No. 8.
