Grapevine : January 2011
10 January 2011 AA News Corrections guidelines updated How to carry the message inside facilities addressed e informational sheet "AA Guidelines for Cor- rections Committees," available at www.aa.org, was recently updated, according to the Correc- tions Desk sta member for AA's General Service O ce (GSO). e section "Basic Functions of Corrections Committees" was changed to make it clear that AA members going into cor- rectional facilities to do Twel h Step work always do so within the regula- tions of such facilities, and that they should carefully review the regulations prior to making a decision to do service inside. Previ- ously, this was listed as a "suggestion." Another updated sec- tion, "Prerelease/Bridging the Gap/Temporary Con- tacts, Etc.," was previously labeled "Sponsorship." It was changed because the word "sponsorship" did not accurately reflect the nature of this Twel h Step work, the GSO sta mem- ber explained. According to the informational sheet, " is AA service is a way for outside AAs to meet up with inside AAs getting released from prison/ jail ... It is not intended to become a long-term AA relationship." e Grapevine welcomes reports on state conventions, workshops and other major AA events for AA News. We'd also like to hear about the di erent ways that your area, district or committee is doing service or carrying the message. Email stories, approximately 150-400 words long, to email@example.com, or mail them to AA Grapevine, attention Senior Editor, 475 Riverside Drive, New York, NY 10115.
