Grapevine : April 2011
songs of gratitude ant smell, way past a decent hour, long after the other players had gone home, oblivious to your impatiently tapping foot. Of course, this is assum- ing I was upright. More often, I was semiconscious in the corner, unable to hold my head up, which earned me the nickname "Ed the Dead." Today, I still love a good jam. I just do it without alcohol. Just last week, I participated in a three-hour jam at a stranger's house, who actu- ally invited me back to the next one! Camping at my first sober music fes- tival, I stayed up playing until dawn, slept two hours, and then attended an AA meeting in the pines, sharing how tired but how good I felt. In- deed, the hangovers don't hurt like they used to! aagrapevine.org 35
