Grapevine : December 2011
Dear Grapevine gloves and shovels were added tools to work the Twelve Steps. Disaster used to be prime drinking time for me in the bad old days—not anymore. AA members did what they were taught. Despite the devasta- tion, Teresa stayed at her home group to make sure there was a meeting. Joyce left her ravaged home to help a frantic neighbor search for lost family members. Eva assisted another member to retrieve water-soaked belongings from her home. Will waited in line for hours to volunteer his time to help move trees thrown onto roads and through roofs. Karin drove around distributing pet food. Jim and his family took in another family who had lost everything. As soon as telephone service was restored, members called each other and their neighbors to share what they had, no matter how meager. Meetings now are often about gratitude for a Higher Power working through the love and compassion we showed for each other. Thank God I kept coming back. Diane L. Harvest, Ala. Eyes wide open IAM deeply concerned about all of the complaints I have been reading in the Grapevine about the Lord’s Prayer, the hand-shaking at the We come together AFTER the tornadoes of 2011 tore through Alabama, many people couldn’t find their way through their own neigh- borhoods. Trees, houses, signs, traffic lights, and tragically, even some of our neighbors, had disap- peared. Dazed and grief- stricken, AA members clung to the program and each other. Rakes, work Dazed and grief-stricken, AA members clung to the program and each other. Vol. 68, No. 7.
