been grateful for. the better life situ- ation, the happiness on the face of the man I love, the comfort of us be- ing a sober couple for more than 10 years and having each other for the majority of that time. I forgot that waking up in the morning, wanting to get out of bed and being able to do so without a struggle, was a gift giv- en to me by my Higher Power, who I call God. I said the words “thank you” every morning, but I didn’t feel the feeling or mean those words. I longed for something more.
